LOS ANGELES (AP) - Soul crooner Musiq Soulchildtook home four 2001 Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Awards--including top R&B/hip-hop artist, top R&B/hip-hop artist-new, top R&B/hip-hop artist-male, and top R&B/hip-hop singles artist--when the winners were announced at the New York Hilton on Thursday (August 30).

Soulchild spoke with AP shortly after accepting his last award. "It feels really good to be appreciated and acknowledge for what you do. I put a lot of work and a lot of heart and soul into my situation, and it just feels good to be heard, you know what I'm sayin'--be thanked, you know, and gratified for it. It feels really good. I'm mad grateful and thankful."

Another multiple winner for the night was R. Kelly, who notched three awards, including top R&B/hip-hop album, top R&B/hip-hop albums artist, and R&B/hip-hop songwriter of the year. Unfortunately, R. Kelly wasn't present at the ceremony since he was still mourning the death of his protegee Aaliyah.

Newcomer Jaheim took home top R&B/hip-hop singles sales honors for "Could It Be." AP spoke with a very excited Jaheim. "It feels great. It feels good--I can't lie, dog. I feel like a whole different man. At first, you know, when I was coming to get the award, I was felt, like, 'Oh, what's so different about this?' But now that I actually have it in my hand, the moment I let somebody hold it, I was, like, 'Where my Billboard at?' Word up! So it feels good, man, for real."

In addition to the presentation of the 2001 Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Awards, several stars took to the stage and performed during the ceremony, including Jaheim, Tha Liks, Mystic, Ruff Endz, Bilal, and Tank. The awards were hosted by Angie Martinez and comedian Alex Thomas.
