NASHVILLE, TN. (AKA Ptroductions/ Mavericks Official Website) - The Mavericks, a band renowned worldwide for their electrifying live performances, took their show on the road this month to perform for US military troops stationed in Bosnia, Kosovo, and Frankfurt, Germany, returning home to
Music City just in time for the release of The Mavericks Live in Austin, Texas, in stores today (Sept. 28th). The Mavericks Live in Austin,
Texas , the band's first live release, is being released as both an album and as an HD DVD.
On September 16th the group traveled to Frankfurt, Germany to perform for US Army troops stationed in Hanau. These soldiers had recently returned from extended tours in Iraq, and the Mavericks were the featured act for the "welcome home" events sponsored by the US Army's MWR (Morale, Welfare & Recreation) Department and Armed Forces Entertainment.
Next, the band was transported by chartered flight from Frankfurt to Pristina, Kosovo. From there, they flew in Army Blackhawk helicopters to Camp Bondsteel for an afternoon performance.
Then it was back to the Blackhawks to hook up with a charter flight to Sarajevo, Bosnia for a performance on the Eagle Base.
At each performance, the Mavericks spent time with the troops, often eating in the mess halls and hanging out with the soldiers, talking about their jobs and daily lives, shopping in the PX's, and taking pictures.
"There was no real separation between us and the troops," says Mavericks bassist Robert Reynolds. "We spent hours just being among them, walking around and talking to everyone we met. I was so impressed by all of these kids, and I felt like they were excited to show us their lives and their work over there. It was really something, they were required to carry their weapons at all times, even if they were off duty in their gym clothes. People were going for coffee carrying M-16s. There's no way you could come away from there without an enormous respect for our military." The tour was produced by AKA Productions.
