HOUSTON, TX. (MECA/ www.meca-houston.org) - Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts (MECA) will be hosting a classical concert showcasing the extraordinary talents of its music faculty.

The Classical Faculty Recital features music from many time periods, such as Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and Twentieth Century. Works of Mozart, Chopin, Nguyen, Beethoven, Bach, and Prokofiev will be performed. A unique feature of the evening will be a traditional Vietnamese piece arranged and performed by MECA classical guitar instructor Binh Nguyen.
This concert showcases the musical flexibility of MECA's outstanding faculty members who instruct our at-risk children, helping them attain goals in classical and cultural music, while improving their performance habits and knowledge of music theory.

MECA is fortunate to have on our faculty many extremely talented musicians. Jose Garza, an accomplished violinist and violist, is currently a member of the Woodlands Symphony and the Symphony of Southeast Texas, as well as a freelance performer and private instructor. Jovan L. Hernandez, a pianist, has attended the University of Texas in Austin School of Music.
Currently a piano instructor at MECA, Mr. Hernandez has carried on his dark/ambient experimental project "zer0-sum" for the last four years. Hal Lanier, a well-known vocal coach, accompanist and diction specialist, was a long-time collaborator with famed Metropolitan Opera basso Cesare Siepi. Mr. Lanier received the degree Master of Music in Vocal Coaching and Accompanying under the instruction of Martin Katz at the University of Michigan. Mr. Lanier is currently a vocal coach at MECA.
