We couldn't have said it better ourselves. Even after a musical career spanning the length of more than 35 years, Lynn Anderson has one of those ageless voices that truly does sound better than ever. It sort of explains why she is often referred to as The Great Lady of Country Music – because she is.
On the upcoming two-disc project, in stores September 14, the "Rocky Top" and "Rose Garden" singer travels back through the years with all-new bluegrass recordings of 13 of her past hits. "Rocky Top" and "Rose Garden" are naturally part of the package, as is other claim-to-famers like the CMA Song of the Year "On Top Of The World," the sadly relatable lyrics of "How Can I Unlove You," the now grass-inspired "That's A No No," and the soft strums of the memorable and unbeatable "Cry."
Also contained on the CD portion of the ensemble are other fan favorites, such as the movin' and groovin' album opener of one woman's devotion to her man, "What A Man My Man Is," and the widely known and loved "Under The Boardwalk," along with "Paradise," "Ride Ride Ride," and "The Worst Is Yet To Come." "If I Kiss You" and "Big Girls Don't Cry" each make an appearance as well, with somber tales of hope gone and love lost.
As on last month's release of The Bluegrass Sessions by Janie Fricke, this collection also includes a DVD that features a new video – for the sincerely timeless "Cry" – and an interview segment with Anderson talking about the new bluegrass versions of her previous hits, about her mother (world renown songwriter Liz Anderson, who began her career writing for Merle Haggard, and who is still singing and still writing and "still funny," Lynn adds), more about her background, a comical story from her past about her former "fake hair," and much more.
Have you ever heard someone sing and listened to them talk, then thought to yourself that he or she is just great? That is the thought that follows listening to this CD and watching the DVD. Lynn Anderson is just great – and, as that one fan had said, she still sounds good. The Bluegrass Sessions is a definite must-buy for true country fans.
