LONDON, UK (Top40 Charts) It's been a whirlwind year so far for Nina Nesbitt, the half Scottish, half Swedish singer-songwriter who has only just turned 18. After touring last year with
Ed Sheeran and Example, and with a string of festival dates coming up this summer, she will be embarking on a headline tour in October.
In little over a year Nina has won the hearts of literally thousands - her twitter followers have rocketed above 85,000 and she has had over 4 million views across YouTube and VEVO to date. Her recent single 'Stay Out' charted at #21 and was playlisted at
Radio 1.
Nina was just 16 years old when she began performing intimate shows across Edinburgh and Manchester and, with a budding interest in filmmaking, posted a selection of her own songs and some beautifully conceived cover versions on YouTube. The response she received was overwhelming. It kick started a roller coaster year that culminated with her self-released EP 'The Apple Tree' going straight to #6 on the iTunes download chart and #1 on the singer-songwriter chart last April. She signed to Island Records last June and released her first single 'Boy' in October.
Nina, who was crowned 'Singer/Songwriter New Artist of the Year 2012' on iTunes last year, is currently recording her debut album with Jake Gosling (Paloma Faith, Ed Sheeran, One Direction), which is due for release this summer.
Not only does Nina's voice boast an amazing technical ability, it is passionate and emotionally raw, her colloquial lyrics heartwarmingly candid and insightful. As she prepares to hit the road, it's clear that this is just the beginning of a very exciting journey for this immensely talented young lady.
'the video for its perky lead track Stay Out has already racked up 1m views since it was posted on Vevo last month, and the song is a staple on
Radio 1….its whip-smart lyrics about sixth-formers listening to the
Rolling Stones could only have come from a teenager.' - Sunday Times Culture
'she's got both charisma and a real talent for earnest clear-voiced folk-pop' - Time Out
'Scot singer penning infectious acoustic-pop with a bit of a grunge thrown in for good measure.' - Company
'She's cute and wholesome with a raw, punchy voice.' - We Love Pop
'Nina's songs capture an innocence that her contemporaries can't... with an army-strong fan base in the UK, big beautiful blonde locks and a sweet charm what else do you need?' - Notion
'Nina has a lovely Scottish lilt to her crystal clear voice.' - The Sun
