There are songwriters, there are musicians and there are entertainers. Few people can pull off all three with refinement, humility and charm.
Lyle Lovett is one of them.
Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers. Lovett has appeared in 13 feature films, and on stage and television. Among his many accolades, besides the four Grammy Awards, he was given the Americana
Music Association's inaugural Trailblazer Award, and was recently named the
Texas State Musician.
In August, Lovett will be backed by an all-star cast, starting with his rhythm section, which belongs in some hall of fame. There's rarely any other outcome when Lovett convenes his Large Band. The 14 players are all virtuosos in their own right, but always serve the greater good of the song and the communal spirit of a live performance. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said "
