Ulrich Schnauss To Release New Album, A Long Way To Fall, For Domino/Scripted Realities In Early 2013
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Throughout the last decade Ulrich Schnauss has produced three albums which perfectly captured his vision of taking the 90's 'Shoegaze' aesthetic and placing it into an electronic context. With the new album 'A Long Way To Fall' Ulrich felt the need to change and explore new avenues. The result is an album still rich in texture and sonics but somehow cleaner, it celebrates the synthesiser but retains a human quality and an open structure to the songs without the need to smother the sounds with walls of echo and reverb. The album is most definitely still an Ulrich Schnauss album however and retains a certain sound and production sheen that could only be Ulrich. He has managed to create a record that has a coherent, cohesive narrative while managing to avoid leaning towards any genre cliches like 'shoegaze' 'electronica' or 'edm'.

A somewhat mysterious producer from Berlin, Germany, Ulrich Schnauss debuted under his own name in 2001 with Far Away Trains Passing By. Released by City Centre Offices, the album seemingly came from nowhere and wound up on several journalists' year-end favourites lists, impressing many with a beguiling level of charm that referenced the shimmer of the Cocteau Twins and the beat mining of the Black Dog. Released in 2003, A Strangely Isolated Place, which was much closer to shoegaze than U.K. techno, was followed in 2007 by the multi-layered texturally rich indie electronica of third album Goodbye. The following years would be filled with many smaller projects, including multiple EP releases, remixes, syncs on adverts and games for Nokia , General Motors, Ea Sports and Csi Miami, as well as collaborations with A Shoreline Dream and All in the Golden Afternoon. Ulrich's tendency toward collaboration continued into the 2010's with full-length works Ulrich Schnauss and Jonas Munk in 2011 and Underrated Silence, a collaborative effort with Mark Peters released in 2012. Schnauss has also had his hands in a number of other projects, including Hexaquart (minimal techno-house), Ethereal 77 (drum'n'bass), and engineering work for a number of bands such as Engineers.
