NEW YORK (www.menteurbana.com) - You've probably sung along and bounced to the beat of their street rhythms and Latin flavor while driving or just chilling at home. If the phrase "Con Tu Blin Blin" rings a bell, then you've definitely heard Mente Urbana. Mente Urbana is the newest sound to hit the Latin Hip-Hop and R&B scene and it has already become the sound behind Sony's Aiwa sound systems with commercials featuring songs from their upcoming CD. And even though Mente Urbana seems to be just beginning to make noise, they have been the industry insider's buzz for quite sometime – long before any of the recent mainstream attention. Why? Mente Urbana successfully combines the street rhythms of east Coast R&B and Hip-Hop with the flavor and heart of the Latin culture.
Formed by 3 talented artists, Mente Urbana touches everyone alike regardless of age, nationality or social class with the fresh and unique sound of their contagious music. It all started when producer Kaydean met up with singer Janid and rapper Laser Rick to work on demos for Sony Music. Impressed by their immediate and amazing chemistry, Kaydean found what was missing in the current Urban Latin scene. Finding common ground in their urban upbringing, the love for their Latin heritage and their disappointment with previous attempts from the Latin culture in R&B and Hip Hop, Mente Urbana was formed.
Individually, each member is a critical part in Mente Urbana's sound. Kaydean, who grew up in the Bronx, NY, has worked as a producer, remixer and engineer for artists like Wu-Tang Clan's Rae-Kwon, Tupac Shakur and Grand Daddy I.U. He provides The Music; the rhythm and flavor of the Hip-Hop and R&B from the East Coast of the United States.
Janid, from Guaynabo, PR, is The Voice; the heart and soul of Mente Urbana.'s persona. Her commercial-friendly beauty mixed with her powerful and soulful voice provides Mente Urbana's strong sex appeal. Her natural ability to weave 5 voice harmonies into smooth sultry vocal arrangements commands the respect of her critics, peers and fans.
Finally, Laser Rick, The Poet, from Carolina, PR, writes words that communicate outstanding imagery, but he communicates them with an aggressiveness and style that has never been seen in the Latin market.
Mente Urbana will kick off their promotional tour this August 28 at El Teatro in San Juan, PR to promote "Tormenta", their debut CD on LaCalle Records. The tour will cover New York, Miami, Chicago, Texas, Los Angeles, Colorado and of course, Puerto Rico. Their first single "Blin-Blin" is scheduled for release early August in the United States and Puerto Rico. For more information, visit www.menteurbana.com.
