Artistic Director Rachael Worby's Inspired & Unexpected New Orchestra
New York, NY (Top40 Charts / MUSE/IQUE) On July 14, 2012 Rachael Worby and MUSE/IQUE, a new orchestra that made its debut last summer, will open its Summer Series at Caltech with a program titled, "Art and Soul of Music." Six-time Grammy-winning trumpeter Arturo Sandoval leads the program with a Tribute to Dizzy Gillespie - on the heels of his new CD on Concord Jazz, "Dear Diz, Every Day I Think of You." Sandoval will serve up everything from bebop to classical to swing also featuring Johann Nepomuk Hummel's "The Trumpet Concerto" and ending the evening with Irving Berlin's "God Bless America."

Rachael Worby will also conduct MUSE/IQUE in Ernesto Lecuona's "Malaguena;" Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata;" Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean;" Mozart's "Adagio and Fugue, k. 456;" Astor Piazzolla's "Fuga y Misterio;" George Gershwin's "Walking the Dog." Actress Zilah Mendoza will pay tribute to Dizzy Gillespie with a poem entitled, "They Called Him Dizzy, But The Man Had Plenty Sense." Caltech's ownBrian Brophy will play the mridangam, a double-headed Indian drum and rap about life changes, theater and jazz.

MUSE/IQUE validates Worby's reputation as a musical visionary and fulfills her dream of recreating a concert experience for the 21st century audience. MUSE/IQUE is the latest and boldest venture in Los Angeles' live performance landscape. We partner with organizations in Los Angeles to transform interesting places and out-door spaces into welcoming destinations where the power of live music brings people together and invigorates community life. We are a nonprofit organization that exists to strengthen the social fabric of our city.

A Pasadena-based ensemble that encourages and supports local artists and connects them to the community, MUSE/IQUE is designed as both an alternative to the traditional classical concert experience and a vehicle for musical education and outreach that will touch, excite and inspire the younger generation. Mixing culture with whimsy, the casual with the unexpected, MUSE/IQUE shakes the cobwebs off of classical concert going.
