Israel and The West Bank . They empowered Bedouin and Jewish youth in Beersheva, created beautiful harmonies with the voices of Kadima Tzoran's girls choir, inspired the boys and girls of Tabeetha to follow their dreams, and shared the power of music with enthusiastic audiences in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
Traveling through the region as
State Department Arts Envoys, Antigone Rising demonstrated that all cultures appreciate and connect to the language of music. In Israel,the band touched diverse audiences,causing the U.S.
Embassy in Tel Aviv to remark "These women are not only talented musicians, but also gifted authors and therapists who reach out to people who are dealing with difficult physical and social challenges. They truly understand the power of music."
Helping to kick off
National Women's History Month while in The West Bank, Antigone Rising joined with the U.S. Consulate in Jerusalem delighting hundreds that turned out to see performances at the Intercontinental Hotel in Bethlehem, The Caesar Hotel in Ramallah and the YMCA on Nablus Road in Jerusalem.
In addition to the public performances, Antigone Rising held cultural outreach events at a women's festival in Ni'lin Village, an exclusive performance at the old city of Bir Zeit for participants of the U.S. Consulate-General sponsored Ghaneeha! Season 3 and the Palestinian Youth Empowerment and Volunteerism Program, and a choir rehearsal at the Schhmidt School in Jerusalem. Delighted by the blending of Palestinian culture and American music, the band commented, "We've had a truly amazing experience here. We've been overwhelmed by the hospitality of our new Palestinian friends and have been astounded by the talent of the artists, dancers and musicians among them. " Speaking about the program, the Consulate General's Counselor for Press and Cultural Affairs, Frank Finver, stated, "Antigone Rising's visit marked an exciting launch for an event-filled month. The historical and cultural contributions of women, both Palestinian and American, are something that all of us can celebrate. Antigone Rising's music speaks to themes that unite us all as human beings, and I hope that Palestinian audiences enjoyed hearing their messages of empowerment, equality, and hope."
