LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ G-Man Marketing) Known for a rich history of hosting many of Nashville's finest songwriters, the Bluebird Cafe is recognized around the USA and around the world. "Everybody who knows country music knows about the Bluebird," states
Sandra Piller, recording artist on Shady Hill Records. "It's definitely the original 'listening room' in Nashville," adds Jane Bach, writer of hits for Reba McEntire,
Jo Dee Messina and others.
A frequent performer at writer's rounds in cities from coast to coast, Bach will be leading an "In the Round" session at the Bluebird Cafe on Saturday, January 14. Joining Bach will be
Sandra Piller, Nik Setian and Sam Setian and will feature Duane Sciaqua (Paul McCartney,
Glenn Frey, Rodney Atkins) on guitar.
The event, "Jane Bach and Friends," will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and reservations are recommended. The Bluebird Cafe is located at 4104 Hillsboro Road, Nashville, TN 37215. Phone is (615) 383-1461.
Often collaborating on songs with major and indie recording artists, and producer of Piller's most recent album, "Days Like These," Bach is an outspoken supporter of the writer's round format. "I have participated in rounds here in Nashville as well as in Los Angeles and New York City," Bach states. "It's a great way for people to hear the songs sung by the songwriter. There's nothing like it. And you never know when you'll be hearing a song that will become the next big hit," she adds.
"The rounds at the Bluebird take place in an intimate setting," notes Piller. "It really makes you focus on the songs themselves. These events are exciting every time I get the chance to take part in them."
In the classic format of the round, each songwriter plays one their songs, followed by the next writer, and the next, and so on. They can join in with each other, add harmonies, contribute a guitar riff, perform a little percussion, or just listen along with the audience.
As noted on the Bluebird's website, the writer's round format "encourages conversation between the writers, which gives the audience an opportunity to hear these creative people talk almost as if in their own living rooms." This is the perfect chance to hear songs performed the way they were originally written. Writers often discuss how they got the ideas and what happened when the songs got recorded. There is often great insight to the creative process as well as what it is like to be a songwriter.
"A writer's round is one of the most stimulating ways to hear a song," states Piller.
