New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) Kenny Chesney will be honored for his staggering success on the road and the airwaves tonight as part of "CMT Artists of the Year," which airs on CMT at 9pm ET/8pm CT.
Broadcast from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, the 90-minute special will be hosted by actor Rob Lowe, honoring Chesney as well as Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Brad Paisley, and Taylor Swift. Other guests include Avett Brothers,
Kelly Clarkson,
Ellen DeGeneres, Lionel Richie, and Gavin DeGraw, who will perform Chesney's "
Somewhere With You" in recognition of the superstar.
After conquering the road in 2011 with the blockbuster 'Goin' Coastal' Tour, Chesney will reunite with
Tim McGraw this summer for the 'Brothers of the Sun' Tour, which will hit stadiums across the country including Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field, East Rutherford's MetLife Stadium, Nashville's LP Field, and Chicago's Soldier Field. This past weekend, the 'Brothers of the Sun' date at Minneapolis' Target Field (7/8) - the first-ever concert at the stadium - sold out in an astonishing four minutes. "CMT Artists of the Year" comes on the heels of Chesney's GRAMMY nomination for "Best Country Duo/Group Performance" for "You and Tequila," his gold-certified hit featuring
Grace Potter. The song, which the NY Times called "one of the finest of Mr. Chesney's career," was also nominated for "Best Country Song."
