Akara Release Their Debut Album 'Extradimensional Ethnography' On September 27, 2011
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Green Light Go Entertainment) "Extradimensional Ethnography" is the debut artist album from Akara - an artist /musician collective of luminous beings headed up by classically trained producer Joshua Penman. This epic full length album features vocals from Femke Weidema, a highly trained musician and accomplished songwriter in her own right, leaving her country/pop/Latin roots to be recreated as an extra dimensional psychedelic goddess. Singing and harmonizing in a mysterious unknown language, Akara present mystical psychedelic dancefloor symphonies which are simply out of this world!
Akara is the result of a twelve-year fusion process of experimentation and development influenced by the likes of Sigur Ros, Shpongle, Claude Vivier, Glitch Mob, Steve Reich, Maurice Ravel, Beats Antique, Frou Frou, Phillip Glass, and Air. Other eclectic influences such as Indian classical music, Irish traditional music, old-school jungle, Tuvvan throat singing, and Peruvian icaros have evolved the Akara sound to where it exists today: a new genre delicately fusing the essences of many styles and musical forms.

Akara exists in two live formats: as a duo, and as an eight piece band. As a band, Weidema and Penman are joined by a small orchestra of classical musicians; two violins, viola, cello, flute, and Indian mandolin, which deliver a level of virtuosic performance unusual in the electronica world. As performers, Akara have achieved enormous success, playing this unique brand of electronica at intimate venues such as Temple of Visions, Fais Do Do, and the Syrup Lofts in Los Angeles. Imagine the heaving basslines of Dupstep and Drum 'n' Bass (think Chase and Status, Rusko, Dieselboy) the glitchy tones and sonic tricks of modern Electronica/IDM (think Prefuse 73, Plaid, Pest, Underworld, Aphex Twin) all beautifully laced with intelligent cinematic overtones, pumped through a variety of tempos - be prepared to get lost in the timeless world of Akara.
