New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Brad Paisley Fans Website) Okay. First day back doing CD reviews after an almost two year break. "The next CD that hits my desk gets reviewed the same day!" The mail comes. "Ah, a CD! Who could it be?" Ripping and tearing. "Son of a *censored*!" Brad Paisley. Never been a fan. But I'm a man of my word, even when no one knew that word had been given. Paisley is an asset to country music. He respects the genre; those who came before him and the institutions that made it great. He has big sales, plenty of fans and critical acclaim to last a lifetime. Everyone tells me I should love everything he does, but I just never have. That's why Nashville gives us more than one artist to choose from I suppose. That being said, there is definitely some truly great music on this album. "A Man Don't Have To Die" is the clear winner. A Haunting song about the hard times in life and those who know what hell is. "Old Alabama" is another great one featuring some classic Alabama lyrics and hooks it would be hard not to like this song. A fun trip through the history of country's most memorable super-group. "Toothbrush" is another gem. A great little tune about the little things that make life great. Sometimes a song doesn't need lyrics to be amazing. "Eastwood" is a clear example of that. A contemporary take on the music of classic westerns. Think Riders in the Sky meets Trans-Siberian Orchestra. So, the verdict? I won't be calling up his fan club for a membership card; but when you go deeper into the tracks than what gets played on the radio you begin to see the genius behind the hat. His fans will love it; new listeners will find their toes tapping... and this writer will find a new respect for the artist that is Brad Paisley.
