Jambalaya Brass Band Live At The Jazz Funeral And Second Line Parade For Coney Island
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Redwood Entertainment) Jambalaya Brass Band will be performing live in a New Orleans-style funeral/parade at the Jazz Funeral and Second Line Parade for Coney Island on Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 2:00 to 3:00 PM. The parade will assemble at Surf Avenue and West 12th Street at Coney Island.

When Coney Island's now demolished Henderson Music Hall was subjected to "pre-demolition" work in October, we shuddered at the destruction to come and said it was time to start planning a New Orleans style funeral. As it turns out, James Demaria, a New York filmmaker with strong ties to New Orleans, is planning a traditional "Jazz Funeral for Coney Island" . . . "Our Jazz Funeral and Second Line Parade will say goodbye to the old and express our hopes for the rebirth," says Demaria, who staged a "Second Line" over the Brooklyn Bridge last year on the same date. Following the funeral parade to dance along with the music is called "second lining." These joyous parades have been called "the quintessential New Orleans art." The . . . event in Coney Island will feature a New Orleans style brass band [Jambalaya Brass Band], horse and carriage for the symbolic coffin, and Darryl "DancingMan504" Young leading the way. The group will stroll down Coney's Stillwell Avenue in a somber march. But when the procession nears the Boardwalk, says Demaria, "it's time for the dead to be reborn. From that point we will 'Second Line' and dance until we can't dance no more."-Tricia Vita, Amusing the Zillion

The Jambalaya Brass Band is a group of seasoned musical pros from a variety of impressive previous musical settings as diverse as the Duke Ellington Orchestra to the Lounge Lizards, yet they have a knack for integrating these disparate musical experiences into one dynamic setting. They embody the history of the best American music of the last hundred years while at the same time suggesting a prescient trajectory of America's musical future. Some of the Band's arrangements are traditional, and many are original and innovative while the playing is precise and spontaneous at the same time, yet all is conceived with imagination and wit. Because after-all, let's face it, this is New Orleans party music and, if anything, the Jambalaya Brass Band is a joyous and exuberant musical celebration as they have proven on many occasions. From the Warner Bros. film Where the Wild Things Are, to the Britney Spears Super Bowl Party in New York City at Planet Hollywood, to the half-time Mardi Gras show for the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden this group of talented musical revelers has literally made the party.

" Jambalaya could stand side-by-side with most any New Orleans brass band in terms of sheer exuberance and energy . . . a party from start to finish."-Henry Smith, All About Jazz

At the Coney Island event Jambalaya Brass Band will be performing tunes from their recent CD release, It's a Jungle Out There, along with other traditional New Orleans fair. Jungle is a rollicking musical journey and a great celebration of American music while at the same time an appetizing preview of what this group is capable of live. Putting on It's a Jungle Out There at a party is a sure bet, but seeing these talented players live really brings the party directly home to you.
