North Hollywood, CA (Top40 Charts/ Webster PR) - Country music superstars
Wynonna and Naomi Judd, The Judds, return to their native Appalachia along with
Santa Claus and representatives from CSX, Food City, Kids Wish Network and the Kingsport (Tenn.) Area Chamber of Commerce aboard the 68th annual
Santa Train on Saturday, Nov. 20.
For many Appalachia residents, the
Santa Train represents the traditional kickoff of the holiday season. Each year, volunteers from the train's sponsors, CSX, Food City, Kids Wish Network and the Kingsport Area Chamber of Commerce, distribute more than 15 tons of toys and gifts to thousands of people gathered at 14 scheduled stops along the train's 110-mile route through Kentucky, Virginia, and Tennessee. This year marks the largest donation of toys in the history of the event - more than $300,000 worth - all of which were donated by Kids Wish Network.
This will be both Wynonna's and Naomi's second appearance on the much anticipated Santa Train, but the duo's first time to ride the train together. Naomi rode the train solo in 2005 and Wynonna was the celebrity just last year. The Appalachia natives will begin their final tour, The Judds: The Last Encore, the day after Thanksgiving.
'We'll be so busy touring over the holidays that the Santa Train will be our real Christmas this year,' Naomi said. 'Wynonna and I are honored to be part of an event that gives so much to Appalachia.'
'We are looking forward to seeing everyone along the Santa Train route this weekend,' said Tori Kaplan, director of corporate citizenship and special events for CSX. 'I speak on behalf of all the sponsors when I say it is a privilege to be part of the Appalachian community and to celebrate the holiday with its residents. Having The Judds with us will make the event even more special.'
