
Philadelphia, PA (TOP40 Charts/Original Richard Allen Committe, INC.) -- The 20th Annual Richard Allen Homes Reunion to Host Local �Richard Allen�s Got Talent� Competition and Give Two Scholarships for College-bound Residents
More than 2,000 persons are expected to attend the 20th Annual Richard Allen Homes Reunion on Saturday, August 14, 2010, from 12 noon to 7 pm, at Lemon Hill, 33rd and Poplar Streets, in Fairmount Park, here. The event, which attracts former and current community residents of the North Philadelphia housing development, is hosted by the Original Richard Allen Committee, INC. (ORAC).
This year, the organization will honor Jazz tenor saxophone legend and Richard Allen alum Robert �Bootsie� Barnes, and R. �Sonny� Driver, publisher of Scoop USA, a North Philadelphia-based community newspaper, whose offices are located within two blocks of the Original Richard Allen Homes on North Girard Avenue.
A highlight of this year�s event will be a talent show, open to attendees of all ages, loosely called �Richard Allen�s Got Talent.�
In addition, two, college-bound residents will receive $500 scholarships that will assist them in purchasing school supplies and books, for the upcoming school year. The awardees, Malik Johnson and Michelle Autrey, are lifelong residents of the Richard Allen Homes and both will be attending four-year universities in the fall.
The reunion will also feature a fashion show and dance-off which highlight this year�s youth-oriented theme.
The Original Richard Allen Committee, INC. was founded 21 years ago by a small group of former residents of the housing development, which is located between 9th and 12th Streets, from Fairmount Avenue to Poplar Street, in North Central Philadelphia.
