Nashville, TN (Top40 Charts/ Vapor Records) - PEGI YOUNG is gearing up for the release of her sophomore disc, titled Foul Deeds, on Vapor Records June 22, by hitting the road opening up for Bert Jansch in June on the west coast, culminating with a night at LA's Largo on 6/20. (Full dates listed below.) The first 5,000 copies of the disc will also contain a bonus performance DVD titled Love Like Water directed by Jonathan Demme at the Tower Theatre in Philadelphia. Foul Deeds is Pegi's soulful follow up to her acclaimed eponymous 2007 debut, of which CD Universe called "an understated gem... a set of songs that walk a beautifully subtle line between innocence and experience." The new disc features original cuts penned by Pegi as well as tracks written by Lucinda Williams and Will Jennings, among others. From the rollicking opening notes of "Pleasing to Me," straight into heartbreak territory with "Broken Vows," Foul Deeds delivers a stellar slice of life from one who has lived the tales contained within. "The CD is full of dark themes... divorce, debauchery, disillusionment and despair. So the title 'Foul Deeds' summed it up," laughed Pegi. Musicians on Foul Deeds include Anthony Crawford on guitars and harmony vocals, Ben Keith on pedal steel, dobro and Hammond B3, Rick Rosas on bass and Phil Jones on drums. A few other notables join Pegi and her band, including Spooner Oldham playing Wurlitzer on "Starting Over," a country-tinged romping lament written by Young and Crawford. Also adding to the overall texture on the aforementioned cut, as well as on Pegi's haunting take on Lucinda Williams' "Side of the Road" and Devendra Banhart's "Body Breaks" are Karl Himmel on drums and husband Neil Young on guitar and harmonica ("Starting Over"). FOUL DEEDS track listing is as follows: Pleasing to Me (W. Jennings) Broken Vows (P. Young) Foul Deeds (P. Young) Starting Over (P. Young/A. Crawford) Who Knew (P. Young) Side of the Road (L. Williams) Blue Sunday (B. Boatman) Traveling (P. Young) Body Breaks (D. Banhart)
