NASHVILEL, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Big Machine Records) - Big Machine recording artist
Taylor Swift has once again entered the history books, this time as the first artist ever to score two No 1 records at Top 40 radio with a country crossover recording.
This week the unstoppable country/pop superstar locked down the No 1 spot at the Top 40
Radio format for a record-breaking second time this year, this time for her single 'You Belong With Me' (source: Mediabase).
It's the same song for which Swift received a Moonman at last week's MTV VMA Awards for Best Female Video, making her the first country artist ever to win a Video
Music Award in the history of the annual event.
'You Belong With Me', which reached a radio audience of 112 million listeners last week alone, is Swift's second consecutive No 1 at Top 40, and her 4th consecutive No 1 Country single.
Nashville based Big Machine's unique partnership with Universal Republic has boosted Swift's incredible pop radio reign that has seen her continue a trajectory of record-smashing proportions.
Universal Republic spearheaded the non-country radio and video promotion efforts for Ms. Swift beginning at the end of 2007, implementing a crossover strategy that rocked the record books earlier this year.
The 19 year old superstar's lead single from her sophomore release Fearless, 'Love Story,' became the first ever country crossover recording to hit No 1 on the Top 40 Radio format in the almost-two decade history of the radio platform according to Mediabase, (Shania Twain's 1997 hit 'You're Still The One' set the previous crossover highwater mark, peaking at No 2).
The biggest selling artist of 2008 of any genre, Taylor Swift was the first artist in the history of SoundScan to have two different albums in the Top Ten of the Year-end album chart (her 2006 debut Taylor Swift and 2008's Fearless). Fearless spent more time at No 1 than any other album since 2000. 'Love Story' has become the most downloaded song in country music history, with Fearless opening in November 2008 in the No 1 position atop both the country and all-genre sales charts.
Taylor's total digital download tally stands at 20 million worldwide, with 'Love Story' soaring past the one million mark and both 'Teardrops On My Guitar' and 'Our Song' surpassing 500,000 in sales, making her one of the most successful digital artists of all time.
Her MySpace site now totals more than 250 million music streams, one of the Top Ten most visited MySpace sites in online history. She is continually the most searched music artist on MySpace and in the digital realm.
Taylor has sold over 10 million albums worldwide.
Thanks to the trailblazing path of Fearless, released in November 2008, with over 4 million in sales to date in the U.S. alone, Swift also became the first female artist of any genre in 13 years to hold down the No 1 position for two months running. Fearless now has Gold and Platinum sales certifications in fourteen countries spanning five continents.
Fearless was voted 2009's Album of the Year by the Academy of Country Music, and has spent more weeks in the No 1 position atop Billboard's Top 200 all-genre CD sales chart than any other album this decade. Swift currently holds the Billboard all-genre record for most Top 20 debuts in a calendar year. Her first-ever headlining tour, the TAYLOR SWIFT FEARLESS 2009 TOUR, is the hottest ticket on the market, with capacity crowds packing arenas around the globe. This summer Swift sold out a show at Madison Square Garden in one minute, and one at Los Angeles' STAPLES center in just two minutes.
Big Machine Records will release the Fearless Platinum Edition, including special DVD/CD bonus features and several new songs on October 27th.
Most recently, the superstar was even named to People Magazine's 2009 Best Dressed List.
