LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ L.A. County Fair) - The 2009 L.A. County Fair opens its gates Labor Day weekend, expanding Angelenos' options for family fun in the sun. Ranked the largest county fair in North America by the International Association of Fairs and Expositions (IAFE), the L.A. County Fair even beats out some state fairs including Iowa, Arizona and Wisconsin's State Fairs, according to Venues Today.

This year, the L.A. County Fair is opening Labor Day weekend for the first time in its 87-year history. Even though Los Angeles is more of a metropolitan city than an agricultural one, the L.A. County Fair averages 1.3 million visitors every year. The secret of the L.A. County Fair's success in attracting larger crowds than state fairs is its ever-changing variety of creative and entertaining programming.

"As the L.A. County Fair, pressure is on to offer entertainment, attractions and activities that surpass people's expectations every year," said Dale Coleman, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Creative Programming. "Our innovative programming is designed to attract new fans of all ages as well as to keep families coming back year after year. In fact, many families find so much to do at the Fair that they come back multiple days during our month-long run. "

Ranging from African safari adventures to animatronic dinosaurs, there's something unique and fun for everyone. At Gateway to Africa, guests enjoy a Safari Adventure with live camels, zebras, and snakes. Jurassic Planet will allow guests to get up close and personal with moving and roaring prehistoric creatures while learning to be a paleontologist and uncovering dinosaurs.

At A Pirate's Life, the Pirates of the Colombian Caribbean's high-wire act and Cap'n Calico Jack's Pirate Academy will get kids excited about being a pirate, digging for buried treasure and hidden booty. The L.A. County Fair will continue to highlight environmental issues with the Going Green: Making a World of Difference exhibit. Rainforest themed interactive exhibits entertain and educate Fairguests on how to respect and enjoy our planet with an eco-friendly lifestyle.

With 19 nights of grandstand entertainment, performances during the Fair range from Classic Rock to R&B to country music. In addition, the L.A. County Fair houses a 70-ride Carnival as well as the famous FairView Farms, home of a wide variety of animals. The L.A. County Fair is also the home of Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition and features wine tastings as well as a Wine Education Program including "Hot Nights-Cool Crisp Whites" among others.

The L.A. County Fair runs Sept. 5-Oct. 4, 2009 and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays (except Labor Day). Connect to the L.A.
