New York (Top40 Charts) - Bob Bogle, co-founder of legendary instrumental/surf-rock band The Ventures, died June 14. He was 75 and suffered from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The architect behind the guitar sound of "Walk, Don't Run" and "Perfidia," in his waning years, Bogle became too frail to play with The Ventures, but did share in the ceremony when the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March '08. Bogle and co-guitarist Don Wilson founded The Ventures after meeting in 1958 and discovering their mutual interest in music. Together, they bought guitars and started playing with the hopes of performing in Tacoma (Washington) clubs. The Ventures scored their first hit a version of the Johnny Smith song "Walk, Don't Run" in 1960. It became a hugely influential song, and the Ventures subsequently charted with 38 albums between 1960 and '72. They have since sold 100 million records. The September issue of Vintage Guitar, distributed in July, will contain a full remembrance of Bogle.
