LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts/ Gets Me Wet Records) - Sit down for a listen to "The Lesbian
National Anthem," the second album by
Internet music phenomenon LezBnRocker
Chicks (Gets Me Wet Records, https://www.lezbnrockerchicks.com, https://www.myspace.com/lezbnrocker, https://www.youtube.com/user/LezBnRocker), and it is instantly clear this band defies categorization. Citing influences as diverse as The
Spice Girls and The Police, the LezBnRocker
Chicks have created a sound that is wholly their own.
"The Lesbian National Anthem," available next week at CD Baby, iTunes and Amazon, is a rollicking follow-up to the LezBnRocker Chicks' eponymous first album. Pop and rock are laid down on reggae beats and given a shot of electronica. But even with its offbeat vibe, "The Lesbian National Anthem" features some deep lyrics. In "It's Okay (The Lesbian National Anthem)," for example, the LezBnRocker Chicks give voice to the experience of many lesbians after they have come out to their families: In the song's chorus, the band sings, "Mama, it's okay/I'm just gay/And the world isn't ending/I'm just tired of pretending."
The LezBnRocker Chicks have never shied away from being exactly who they are, though. In "Lesbian and Proud!" on their first album, the band members claim their identity as a bunch of lesbian rocker chicks - without ever singing a word.
"We do not want to be another formula band," explained LezBnRocker Chicks lead vocalist Leslie. "We express ourselves through the music, and we have a lot to say."
Listeners eager to see what the buzz is all about can get a feel for the LezBnRocker Chicks before "The Lesbian National Anthem" goes on sale. The band's three-song first album, "LezBnRocker Chicks," is currently available from iTunes, Amazon and eMusic.com.
