Angel and Brian Gorman decided to switch gears and head in a new direction. The duo, much praised for their awe-inspiring live sets and loop heavy soundscapes, have taken their sonic vision to the next level. After three years of experimentation within their performance both on-stage and in the studio, the band has developed their craft into an art form. They now called Southern Records home.
With the help of engineer and co-producer Tim Green (Joanna Newsom, Melvins, Monotonix), Tartufi recorded Nests of Waves and Wire and spent over four months recording and mixing what has become their most ambitious work to date. Further exploring the boundaries of vocal and instrumental layering, poly-rhythmic deconstruction and song arrangement, Nests of Waves and Wire is a lush and weighty mix of the band's compositional sensibilities and sonic capabilities. Having created a sound both entirely refreshing and wholly vital, the momentum behind them shows no sign of slowing. Sounding like a 10-piece band backed by a full choir, "Nests..." is a refreshing breach within the realm of today's popular music.
Tartufi kicks off a US tour today in support of Nests of Waves and Wire.
Fun Facts!
* Tartufi created a rock and roll school for kids called Saturday Morning Rock Out, a program designed to assist children aged 4-7 in the fundamentals of music theory, creative exploration through sound, lyric writing, and group performance.
* Tartufi also formed Thread Productions, a record label and production collective aimed at generating a larger sense of community among San Francisco musicians and artists. Thread has been dubbed "The Bay Area's Best Music Collective" by The East Bay Express.
* Tartufi was voted "Best Indie Band '07" in the San Francisco Bay Guardian Readers Poll.
