NEW YORK (Coachella Festival Website) - The already impressive line-up for the fourth annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival just got hotter. History will be made at the festival--which takes place the weekend of April 26-27 in Indio, CA--when Iggy Pop reunites with his seminal band the Stooges. For the first time in 28 years, Iggy (who performed at Coachella in 2001) will take the main stage April 27 with original Stooges, Ron Asheton (guitar) and Scott Asheton (drums). Special guest Mike Watt will fill in on bass for David Alexander, who passed away in 1975. This performance by Iggy and the Stooges comes amid anticipation of four newly recorded songs by the group which will appear on the upcoming Iggy Pop CD to be released by Virgin Records this summer. The CD will also feature tracks by Iggy solo, his band The Trolls and San Francisco's Green Day. Meanwhile, the Hives - whom were influenced by the raw power of Iggy and the Stooges - will make their Coachella debut April 26, marking the band's only 2003 appearance in the U.S. The Swedish group achieved a Grammy nomination with their critically acclaimed album (VENI, VIDI, VICIOUS) and have built a strong live reputation. The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival - having been hailed as "The Best American Festival" by Rolling Stone (6/6/02) and "Probably The Best Festival In The World" by England's NME (5/11/02) - returns for its fourth year Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 at the Empire Polo Fields in Indio, CA. An unparalleled cutting-edge musical experience in a peaceful and breathtakingly beautiful setting that last year attracted 55,000 music fans, the Goldenvoice-promoted extravaganza is being headlined by Beastie Boys (Saturday) and the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Sunday).
