New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - Tom Rush has been playing a handful of warm up dates in preparation for the release of his album, 'What I Know' and the national tour to soon follow. But already the critics are raving about his new material. Here's something that came in this week:

Folk Legend Tom Rush Captivates Fans By Michael Eck for the Albany Times Union

"Folk music legend Tom Rush returned to the Capital Region Sunday for an engaging Eighth Step concert that had little to do with the mass commerce of the Super Bowl and lots to do with the intimacy of acoustic music.

Rush has been in the music biz a good long time, recording his first album in Cambridge in 1962, while spending more time working on his guitar picking than on his Harvard English classes.

Sunday's performance stretched back to those coffeehouse days, with Rush comically pointing out the current political incorrectness of some of the classic blues tunes he used to romp on.

And he also brought things up to date, playing selections from his soon-to-be-released album "What I Know" - his first studio album in over 35 years. Rush, who turns 68 next Sunday, alternated between two battered guitars throughout his two sets. He had stories that mirrored the battle scars, and many served as ironic introductions to songs.

His classic rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Urge For Going," for example, was set up with the tale of meeting Mitchell in a Detroit basket house where the owner - widowed by his dear Ethel - married another woman named Ethel.

Rush coughed a little during the first verse, but he soon found his groove and the song took on its familiar, floating trancelike presence. Beautiful."
