NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ Adrenaline Records) - The Pink Spiders, the Nashville-based band with the explosive sound and attitude to burn, is hitting the road across the nation this fall in support of the
September 23rd independent release of their latest album, Sweat It Out. Kicking off on
September 11 in the band's hometown of Nashville, and continuing through November 8 in Miami, the cross-country headlining trek also includes a stop in Baltimore for the second annual Noise in the Basement Creative Conference (to support independent music retail stores) on
September 19th, where The Pink Spiders will share the bill with Rock and Roll Hall of Famers The Pretenders. In addition, The Pink Spiders will play a series of October dates in support of fellow rockers Sherwood.
With heavyweight producer Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Bruce Springsteen) at the helm, Sweat It Out is the band's first album on Pink Spiders frontman Matt Friction's own label Mean Buzz, via Adrenaline Music. Giving fans a taste of what's to come, the new album's first single and video "Gimme Chemicals" - which screams "summer party anthem" - will be hitting the airwaves shortly. Prior to the album release, the band is selling pre-order "survival" packs that contain the album along with a Pink Spiders T-shirt, 5-Song digital EP, sunglasses and a condom.
Recently the group wrapped up another stint (their second) on this summer's Van's Warped Tour, which was followed by dates on their own headlining tour. Major press outlets across the nation-including USA Today, Blender and Spin-have already heaped praise on The Pink Spiders. Rolling Stone declared that "the Spiders are ready to spin a power-pop revolution," while MTV News said "the Pink Spiders' rock and roll assault is under way. You've been warned." Entertainment Weekly described the group as "the ideal blend of sweetness and crunch," and Billboard was impressed by their "web of gritty rock'n'roll, catchy riffs and flashy looks."
Infamy and chaos has followed The Pink Spiders since they first stormed onto the Nashville music scene in 2004 with their self-released debut The Pink Spiders Are Taking Over, which immediately led to the band's first indie deal less than 6 months after forming. The guys quickly generated a big buzz with their 2005 indie label release Hot Pink, an infectious dose of dark pop detailing fast getaways and faster women. Less than three weeks after the Hot Pink release, and in the midst of a nationwide tour, the band found themselves at the center of a major-label bidding war.
The Pink Spiders landed a deal with Geffen/Suretone, and in short order released their major label debut, Teenage Graffiti, produced by hit-maker and legendary frontman of The Cars, Ric Ocasek. That album spawned the single "Little Razorblade," which exploded on radio stations from coast to coast as well as on MTV's Total Request Live. Now, having made the wise choice to move to the indie world - Friction's own Mean Buzz label via Adrenaline Music Group - as major labels continue to sway unsteadily on shaky ground, Matt Friction and his bandmates are poised to prove that the success of Teenage Graffiti was no fluke. They have persevered to make sure that their best work to date sees the light of day on the strength of their own efforts.
