NEW YORK, NY. (Atlantic Records)--Atlantic recording group Death Cab for Cutie has revealed details of a string of headlining dates beginning in early October. The shows support the Seattle-based band's acclaimed new album, "NARROW STAIRS." Released this past May, the collection made a stunning debut atop the Billboard 200, marking Death Cab's first-ever #1 record.
DCFC will perform in their hometown of Seattle for the first time in nearly two years at the annual Bumbershoot Festival. They close out the mainstage of the festival on Monday, September 1st. Indie rock legends Superchunk have agreed to make an increasingly rare appearance and join the bill.
Death Cab will then kick off their fall tour on October 3rd at Boston's Agganis Arena, with dates thus far announced through an October 13th show at St. Louis' Fox Theatre (see below itinerary). Among the tour's highlights is an October 6th date at New York City's legendary Radio City Music Hall. Ticket pre-sales for selected dates will begin on August 13th via Artist Arena, https://tixx1.artistarena.com/dcfc/. An additional slate of new tour dates will be announced in the coming weeks.
Before hitting the road, Death Cab will be among those making their voices heard at the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Denver. The group's Ben Gibbard and Chris Walla will be performing a special acoustic set at an event titled "Concert for a Cooler Planet." The private, educational event takes place after the convention closes on Tuesday, August 26th and is presented by League of Conservation Voters, highlighting the need for an environmentally friendly U.S. Energy Policy.
DCFC recently wrapped a major cross-continental tour in support of "NARROW STAIRS." The trek included headline dates across North America, as well as sets at such festivals as Sasquatch! Music Festival, Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, and British Columbia's Pemberton Festival. The band also toured Europe and Asia, with shows including such festies as the UK's Latitude Festival, Spain's Benicassim Festival, and Japan's Summer Sonic Festival.
"I Will Possess Your Heart," the first single from "NARROW STAIRS," has proven an unquestionable smash. The song reached #1 at Triple A outlets nationwide, while also scoring Top 5 airplay at Modern Rock. In addition, "I Will Possess Your Heart" is the featured song in Rhapsody's TV commercials for the launch of their new MP3 store. The compelling "I Will Possess Your Heart" companion video -- co-directed by the band's longtime friend and collaborator Aaron Stewart-Ahn, with much-admired cinematographer/videographer Shawn Kim -- was featured in rotation at MTV, MTV2, mtvU, VH1, and FUSE. The band was also featured as one of MTV's coveted Artists of the Week, in which they hilariously portrayed whirlyball players.
Death Cab recently unveiled their new video for next single "Cath..." which was directed by Autumn de Wilde. The video can be viewed here: https://vsyndication.wmg.com/tip.html?bcpid=824272798&bctid=1655850158
"NARROW STAIRS" -- which follows 2005's Grammy-nominated, RIAA platinum-certified "PLANS" -- is shaping up as Death Cab's most-praised work to date, with four-starred reviews appearing in recent issues of both Rolling Stone and Blender. USA Today raved that "the band's confident mix of sunny instrumentation and menacing drone give these tales a haunting, vivid resonance."
"'NARROW STAIRS' will continue to propel Death Cab for Cutie into the hearts and minds of thousands," proclaimed Alternative Press, going on to declare the band's Ben Gibbard to be "the best in his trade." "Unquestionably the best thing they've ever done," summed up MTV.com, "an early contender for the best album of 2008."
