New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Basic NYC/ Sullivan Room) - Emerging from the East River like a desert oasis, Water Taxi Beach has become one of New York's favorite summertime venues. Who can beat dancing under a tent to some of the world's finest DJs, relaxing with a spectacular view of Manhattan while imbibing and sampling delicious food and drink?
On Sunday, August 3rd, two of NYC's underground clubbing institutions - Basic NYC and the Sullivan Room - are hosting their first ever joint beach party at Water Taxi Beach. This is a chance for everyone who likes their music dark, dirty and underground to take things outdoors for an afternoon and evening of top-quality house and techno. Running from 12pm till 10pm, this completely free event is open to music-lovers of all ages.
The DJ talent on this day is a diverse cross-section of NYC's dance music spectrum. Renowned veteran New York producer Matthias "Matty" Heilbronn will be offering up his irresistible blend of soulful, rhythmic house with a touch of the techy-side that has earned him releases on pioneering labels like Poker Flat and Wave Music. New NYC resident JT Donaldson has long been a mainstay in the underground house community, with a discography that includes OM Records, Robsoul Recordings and his own Gallery imprint.
Representing the Sullivan Room and Basic NYC are event organizers Sleepy & Boo, a DJ duo whose names are synomous with both excellent DJ sets and parties. Their Basic NYC party - now running for four-plus years at the Sullivan Room - regularly hosts huge out-of-town guests like Miguel Migs and Mark Farina, who have recognized the events invigorating atmosphere and vibe.
Rounding out the lineup is 2 Damn Cheeky, whose driving electro-house sound has made them a regular fixture at Sullivan Room events over the years. Nickmatic will be dropping his deep and Chicago-flavored underground house, while the Mixer Assassin dup of James Lomax and Aizaz Akram get things started properly with dancefloor favorites past and present.
Support for this event comes from Dubspot, New York's top educational center for DJ and music production classes. Dubspot also offering party guests a chance to win a free DJ production and Ableton workshop as part of their support. Dancetracks Digital, the tastemaking online music retailer that evolved from the fabled East Village record store of the same name, is also lending a hand.
All of this will be taking place at Water Taxi Beach. Located in the heart of Long Island City and easily accessible from public tranportation, Water Taxi's diverse entertainment programming and delicious refreshments (including the award-winning Motz Burger from chef Harry Hawk) have earned the venue a huge following across all ages and interests. It has quickly developed into a treasured open space and events venue that is a welcome addition to the city.
