Nashville, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Leona Williams Official Website) - Country artist Leona Williams will be performing alongside Tanya Tucker, The Oak Ridge Boys and many others to support Jett Williams and her disaster relief benefit to raise money for residents of Macon County, TN. This daylong benefit concert will be held on Saturday, May 10 at Deerwood Park, Red Boiling Springs, TN.

Leona Williams is taking a brief pause in her busy touring schedule to help out those in need and while in Tennessee, she'll make a stop in Nashville to add some finishing touches on her upcoming album. Earlier this year, Williams has teamed up with Wood Newton, a major partner in the newly formed Ah-Ha Music Group, to put together a very special album filled with Merle Haggard songs due out this summer. If you aren't sure why Leona is singing Merle; well, you need to do some country music research. The dynamically talented and beautiful Williams is certainly qualified to sing Haggard tunes; probably more so than anyone who has done so previously.

In the late 70's, Williams teamed up with Merle Haggard to record "The Bull and the Beaver." When the song became a top ten hit, they recorded a duet album titled Heart to Heart. The couple also teamed up in real life and married in 1978. During their marriage, Williams wrote some of Haggard's biggest hits including "You Take Me for Granted" and you can hear her harmony vocals on several of Haggard's top tunes, including "The Way I Am," "The Roots of my Raising," and "Big City." Their married life wasn't quite as harmonious as their music projects and, although they remained friends, they divorced in 1984.

Always on the go, fans can catch Williams performing all over the great state of Texas, as well in her home state of Missouri as she has signed on to appear for another season of the Grand Ladies in Branson, MO. Williams will rotate her appearances with other "grand ladies" of country music, including Jean Shepard and Wanda Jackson. Work on the new album for Ah-Ha Entertainment Group is almost complete with details to follow at a later date.
