Nashville, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Arista Records) - Alan Jackson's 'Small Town Southern Man' hit the No 1 spot on the R&R and Country Aircheck charts today. The song is the first single off Jackson 's GOOD TIME, which debuts this week at No 1 on the pop and country charts and is Jackson 's 32nd No 1 hit single. Fans will note the coincidence that the first single from the 17 songs (all written by Jackson ) and 71 minutes of GOOD TIME will go No l on the 17th day of March – SPOOKY!

Released late last year, the single has resonated in the hearts of fans and critics since its release. It was the subject of a two page story in People Magazine, and in a CMT column devoted to the song, Chet Flippo wrote, '…I reflected that there is no other word than "grace" to mark the skillful writing and economy of words in lines such as this: "And he bowed his head to Jesus/And he stood for Uncle Sam/And he only loved one woman/He was always proud of what he had/He said his greatest contribution/Is the ones you leave behind/Raised on the ways and gentle kindness/Of a small town Southern man."

Jackson says, 'I didn't sit down to write a song about my family and my daddy and granddaddy, but I did pull from that stuff. But wherever you go, there are rural people - around outskirts of major cities and everywhere - that are working for a living and raising families. They all have the same qualities and same goals as a small town southern man.'

It is Jackson 's special ability to connect with fans everywhere that has made him a three - time CMA Entertainment of the Year. He is one of the most compelling performers/songwriters in country music, selling more than 49 million albums. He has penned 22 of his 32 No 1 records, and is the most nominated artist in CMA history. He topped the album charts not once, but twice, in 2006, with the success of Precious Memories and Like Red on a Rose. GOOD TIME is his first album of straight ahead country music since 2004s WHAT I DO.
