NASHVILLE, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Compadre Records) - Country music artist Trent Willmon makes his silver screen debut in summer '08 with the theatrical release of "Palo Pinto Gold," a family friendly, action packed Western set in the late 1800s. He begins filming in January in
Texas and is contributing music to the movie's soundtrack. A one-minute trailer for the film will be posted on www.palopintogold.com in the next month.
Willmon takes on the lead role of Jake Landers, a Texas rancher turned Ranger in a classic battle of good over evil. Willmon is joined by Roy Clark, Mel Tillis, former Texas Ranger Joaquin Jackson, Hollywood veteran Billy Hart and a special guest appearance by Kinky Friedman (playing the Governor of Texas).
Heading up production is Anthony Henslee as writer/producer/director and Steve Schmidt as co-writer/co-producer for Henslee Productions, a division of Cottonwood Entertainment. This is Henslee's second feature film.
The role of Jake Landers is perfect for Willmon who grew up on a ranch in West Texas. He's an avid rider and roper and has always included cowboy themed songs on each of his albums.
"'Palo Pinto Gold' is the story of good over evil, right over wrong, the importance of values and helping people in need, even if the cost is great," says Henslee. "It takes you back to a time when values were more important than money or power, a good name meant everything and a man's word was gold. I wanted that truth in the actors portraying these characters and Trent embodies all those things - it's living the cowboy way."
Willmon releases his third studio album, "Broken In" (Compadre Records/Music World Entertainment), on February 26, 2008; the title track will be the new single and ships to radio this month. His self-titled debut album gave country music listeners songs like "Beer Man," "Dixie Rose Deluxe's..." and "Home Sweet Holiday Inn" which was used in a national commercial for the hotel chain. His sophomore album, "A Little More Livin'," was released in June 2006 and the first song, "On Again Tonight," released to radio was a Top 25 single on Billboard's Country singles chart. Both albums were released on Columbia Nashville.
Willmon is the host of CMT's reality show "America's Top Cowboy" and released "The Beer Man Cookbook" in June. He's been featured on CMT and GAC with features in Country Weekly, Western Horseman, American Cowboy and many others. Willmon is sponsored by Wrangler and is the spokesperson for Horses for Healing, a therapeutic riding center for special needs children. As a songwriter, Willmon has written songs for Brad Paisley, Eric Church, Montgomery Gentry and Wade Hayes. He is currently touring over a hundred dates a year. www.trentwillmon.com
