Texas traditionalist Todd Fritsch has partnered with Armed Forces Entertainment for a three-week tour of U.S. bases in the Caribbean December 3- 20. Fritsch and his band Stampede will heat things up for troops at Guatanamo Bay (Cuba), Soto Cano (Honduras), Curacao and San Juan (Puerto Rico). The trip has a special meaning for Todd's soundman, Enrique Alvarado and bassist Robert DiBlanco; Enrique's cousin will be in attendance at the 'Gitmo' show, and Robert served in the German Air Force. For Fritsch, whose grandfather, uncle, and six great-uncles served in the military, the tour is a special honor.
"It's a great way to end this year - entertaining our troops in the Caribbean," says Todd. "I can't wait to meet the soldiers and thank them personally for their service to our country. I hope they enjoy the shows."
Fritsch actually cancelled some stateside dates to make time for this tour, and he's looking forward to more than just singing. Word has already reached Texas that a big chili cook-off is planned for the Honduras date. "We get to judge the contest," says Todd. "I bet there are some great cooks there - and I'm hoping for some of the hot stuff!"
During the long summer months, Fritsch not only burned up the highway, but racked up some frequent-flyer miles as well. He traveled steadily stateside, and wrapped up his third tour of France in Lyon on September 22, where he was honored with the "Independent Artist of the Year" award from the French Association of Country Music. Recently, he's shared the stage with the Brazosport Symphony Orchestra, Marty Stuart (at Gruene Hall), Aaron Tippin, his mentor Gary P. Nunn, Pat Green, Roger Creager and Pauline Reese. His current single, "First Date (For The Last Time)," from SAWDUST, was released to Texas radio in October, and will be released internationally next month. Before Todd's Armed Forces shows, he'll make his first appearance at the Celebrity Cutting competition in Fort Worth on November 30.
