Chicago, IL. (Top40 Charts/ Velvet Lounge) - Chicago based drummer/bandleader Jimmy Bennington brings legendary clarinetist Perry Robinson to the city for three very rare performances.

Perry Robinson (b. 1938), clarinetist/composer, is an internationally recognized musician who has played and recorded with many Jazz Greats including Henry Grimes, Archie Shepp, Anthony Braxton, Bill Dixon, Paul Motian, Dave Brubeck, Andrew Cyrille, Burton Greene, William Parker, and many others. Perry is one of the innovators of the Modern Jazz and Free Jazz Movements that began in the 1960's. Robinson's growth and development as a composer and clarinetist has continued from then to now in a remarkable career spanning sixty years. Historic recordings include Perry Robinson, Funk Dumpling (Savoy Records), Archie Shepp, Live in San Francisco (Impulse Records), and Henry Grimes, The Call (ESP Records). Robinson's biography, The Traveler, was published in 2002.

Jimmy Bennington works as a sideman or a leader with his group Colour and Sound. He has played and recorded with Julian Priester, John Gross, Bert Wilson, Perry Robinson, Michael Vlatkovich, Michael Bisio, and Jim Baker. A former student of late Coltrane drummer Elvin Jones, Bennington served as drumtech and bandmanager for Jones from 2000-2002. His work encompasses a broad spectrum of the Jazz artform and can be heard on his debut recording 'Midnight Choir' OA2 Records (2003), and his own TSP Label (available at CD Baby) that includes a recently released duo recording with legendary trombonist Julian Priester, 'Portraits and Silhouettes', (2007).
