New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ RCA) - Having just enjoyed both the longest-running No 1 of the year and the quickest chart-topper of his career - 5 and 7 weeks respectively - with 'Never
Wanted Nothin' More' and dropping 'Don't Blink,' the second and history-making single from his still unreleased album,
Kenny Chesney kicks off Just Who I Am:
Poets &
Pirates on ABC's 'Good Morning America' Sept. 13. Anticipation around the reigning and triple Academy of Country
Music and two-time and current Country
Music Association Entertainer of the Year's first new music in two years - and the folks who wake up early will get a taste of what the new album is all about.
'It's the same idea as morning drive,' Chesney says of the morning show performance. 'When people are starting the day, it just sets the tone for your entire day and if we're going to kick-off a record, you wanna pull all that energy from New York City and put it right back into your music. If we can get that into people's homes, it'll be perfect.'
To make his latest 'Good Morning America' appearance special, the folks at ABC are taking him straight to the roof. So not only will Chesney and band perform 'Never Wanted Nothin' More,' but they'll have the Manhattan skyline as their backdrop.
It'll be a long day for Chesney, who will close things out with an appearance on NBC's 'Late Night With Conan O'Brien.' But coming off of his Cruzan-sponsored Flip Flop Summer Tour - which had played to over a half-million people over the first half of 2007, making it Pollstar's Most Attended Country Tour at midpoint - and having been signed as a free agent by the New Orleans Saints, the whirlwind pace is something Chesney is more than used to.
'I'm so glad we're finally getting to the place where we're getting this music out there,' Chesney admits. 'When you make records that you really try to pack with music that you believe in, you want to keep putting out singles, but then next thing you know, it's been two years since you've put out new music.
'You're working on it. You're trying out stuff in the studio, but until you get to the point that you're letting the fans hear it, it's not the same. To me, the music isn't complete until the people who come out and share their summers with us get to hear it. So, we're closing in on truly finishing the record.'
With a sold out show slated for New York City 's famed Madison Square Garden this week, Chesney in the final stretch of his Flip Flop Summer, which will wrap up in Atlanta with a two-night stand Sept. 8 and 9. As Just Who I Am prepares to hit the streets two days later, though, it appears the pace isn't slowing down, only shifting gears.
