TORONTO, Canada (Top40 Charts/ Skylar Entertainment) - 'Mink's five-member formula churns out powerful pop-rock with gritty undertones' - Spin Magazine
One of the fastest-rising, hard-working and dedicated bands to come out of both Australia and the US, Mink is heading out on an extensive tour with a few stops in Canada. With their debut single 'Talk To Me' already spinning on over 50 Alternative and Modern rock stations across the US and high profile magazines such as Spin singing their praises, Mink is set to make a huge impact with their debut album coming out later this year.
Non-stop action is all part of the Mink way of life. The New York based band has been pushing themselves since they formed in Spring 2006. They've written 60 songs, recorded their debut album in a span of four weeks with producer Sylvia Massy (Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tool), shot a music video for their infectious song "Talk to Me" with director Christian Lamb (Madonna, Korn, Kelly Clarkson, Incubus), had their song "Pressure Pressure" featured nightly on ESPN's 2006 Major League baseball playoffs coverage, and has become known for their exciting live show in clubs and opening big-venue concerts by Angels & Airwaves, among others. And all that whilst going back and forth between New York (from where singer Neal Carlson hails) and Australia (home to the rest of the band.)
The members come from a variety of backgrounds, ranging from the garage-rock, punk, solo and experimental backgrounds of Carlson, Grant Fitzpatrick and Mozgawa to the formal jazz studies of Nick Maybury, to what may be the most unusual combination of credits for any rocker in David Lowy – he's a successful businessman, a producer of the Tony Awards-nominated Broadway musical "The Color Purple" and an avid aviation enthusiast and stunt pilot! And though members cite influences and favourites ranging from classic punk to Prince to Bjork to Miles Davis, a chemical bond formed instantly that gave Mink its own enticing character.
One might recognize Mink's lead singer Carlson from his former band Bona Roba, and from the reality show Rock Star: INXS, but the band is working to be recognized for their music and high energy performances rather than past experiences. "We want to be important, have a legacy, get better and better, and get to the same level of bands we love, like the Foo Fighters and the Chili Peppers," says Fitzpatrick. "To keep rock 'n' roll alive," says Maybury. "We're flying the flag."
Mink showcased at music industry conference SXSW, toured across the U.S. and Australia, are now set to open two dates for KISS and plan to be on the road as much as they can.
MINK are taking off and pushing the limits.
