Nashville, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Blue Leaf) - On Saturday night, Canadian country artist George Canyon took home his second Juno Award - the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy - for Country Recording of the Year. The award was given for his album Somebody Wrote Love, which was released in July 2006 through Universal Music Canada.

'Once again I'm humbled by God's grace and the support of my fans,' says Canyon. 'It's such an honor to receive this award from my industry peers.'

Canyon, who accepted the award on Saturday night's awards dinner in Saskatoon, also presented an award on Sunday night's CTV television broadcast and participated in the Juno Fest concert and autograph session, as well as The Juno Cup hockey game.

His new single, 'I Want You to Live,' is the latest in a string of hits for the singer. It is currently in the top 10 on the Canadian Country charts at radio and the video is in rotation at CMT Canada. The clip, which features members of the Canadian Forces, has been warmly received for its portrayal of the sacrifices that military families make. Canyon traveled to Afghanistan in the spring of 2006 with Canada's Foreign Affairs Minister, Peter MacKay to perform for the troops and hopes to have the opportunity to entertain there again in the near future.

In May 2004, Canyon placed second on the USA Network television show Nashville Star. He released his album, One Good Friend (produced by Tim Dubois and Tony Brown) on Universal South later that year – the album debuted at No 1 on the Canadian Country Soundscan charts and the album's 4 singles, 'I'll Never Do Better Than You,' 'My Name,' 'Who Would You Be,' and 'One Good Friend,' all hit the Top 5 on the country radio charts in Canada. The video for 'My Name' went to No 1 on the CMT Canada video charts, and brought Canyon a SOCAN songwriter's airplay award in November 2006.

Canyon went on to win the 2005 Juno for Country Recording of the Year for One Good Friend, kicking off an amazing run of awards. He is a three-time, fan's choice for Entertainer of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards. The fan-voted awards also extended to the 2005 Canadian Country Music Awards, where he was voted Cheez Whiz Fan's Choice, in addition to bringing home three other CCMAs that year – he won an additional two in 2006. In 2005 Canyon hosted the East Coast Music Awards, which aired live across Canada on CBC television – he walked away that year with three awards and added three more ECMAs to his mantle in 2007.
