Austin, TX. (Top40 Charts/ Malford Milligan Official Website) - Malford Milligan debuted his new band featuring Kelly Doze (vocals) and Phil Brown (guitar) at Nuno's on Sixth Wednesday night, April 4, 2007. The band will continue to play there every Wednesday night @ 10:30 p.m. According to Texas Monthly Magazine, "Malford may be the next great soul singer ... his tenor resonance and barking delivery invite comparisons with Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, and when he's onstage you can't take your eyes off him."

Nuno's on sixth street has only been open two years, but has found it's niche by bringing 6th Street back to what it became famous for, live music.

"The vibe in here is definitely old Austin and it's the last place on sixth street that has live blues bands seven days a week," says Nuno Vasconcellos, proprietor. "After Joe's Generic Bar closed down two years ago, we stepped in to fill their shoes."

Nuno's wife Angie adds, "Nuno's On Sixth is about the experience of the music, the feel of the vibe, and keeping Austin the true Live Music Capital of the World. Many Austinites tell me that Nuno's reflects the way 6th street used to be back in the day."

Blues legend Pinetop Perkins, who played with Muddy Waters, can be found there on a regular basis. "I bought Pinetop a keyboard and we and pick him up whenever he feels like coming down to play," added Angie. "He's 93 years old and he's still got it." Alan Haynes, one of the top blues guitarists in the world, plays every Thursday night, and you can find Buddy Miles there as well.

During the week of South by Southwest, Nuno's featured mostly Austin talent, playing the blues to a packed house every night of the week.

"I saw Wes Jeans and Alan Haynes perform during the week of SXSW in Austin at Nuno's On Sixth, and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen."(after playing an Alan Haynes and Wes Jeans song, back to back on XM Radio) -Aaron Lee - XM Radio, Bluesville 74

Nuno's is also becoming a destination for the film community, opening its upstairs bar for local film screenings by the Wolfpack Film Group every Wednesday starting May 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Nuno's is a family affair with the upstairs bar being run by Nuno Jr., and his mother Angie and sister Nina are frequently spotted at the bar helping out. The love and support the Vasconcellos family gives to the blues musicians has nurtured the blues scene back to a healthy presence down in an area which has been overly-commercialized as of late.

Ironically, Nuno Vasconcellos, a business entrepreneur, who has been on CNN as a Horatio Alger story, www.cnn.com/2003/US/Southwest/11/22/deportinghoratio.alger.ap/, bought the bar as an anniversary present to his wife Angie. It was the location of their first date 20 years ago.
