LOS ANGELES (Godsmack) - Godsmack has parted ways with drummer Tommy Stewart, as the band begins work on its forthcoming album. There's no word on a replacement at press time.

The decision was mutual, and Stewart will move on to pursue other musical opportunities, according to a statement released by the band. The band notes his contribution to Godsmack and wishes him luck in future endeavors.
"Tommy is a great guy and a tremendous drummer. We wish him all the success in the world...he deserves it," said lead vocalist Sully Erna in a statement.

Erna formerly played drums in the Boston band Strip Mind, which released What's In Your Mouth in 1993.

Godsmack is working on the follow-up to Awake, which will mark the band's third release. The first two albums have each gone multiplatinum. The band's latest single, "I Stand Alone" off the The Scorpion King soundtrack, is a cross-format rock hit.
