NASHVILLE, TN (Alan Jackson Official Website) -
Superstar Alan Jackson's sixteenth album, Like Red on a Rose, has become yet another touchstone in a remarkable and evolving career, as the Alison Krauss-produced disc debuts at No 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums sales chart and No 4 on the Billboard 200 (chart of all current albums).
Released September 26, the 13-song collection – praised by the Associated Press as 'all twilight and velvet' – is a full, warm disc, the evolution of a seed planted when Jackson asked Krauss to produce a bluegrass album for him. She envisioned a different approach, with The New York Times declaring the resulting disc 'one of the best [ Jackson ] has ever made … rich and unpredictable,' while Playboy hails the collection as 'a work of heartbreaking soul.'
Propelled in part by the success of the seductively atmospheric Top 15-and-climbing title track, first-week sales of Like Red on a Rose arrive amid a shower of continuing praise from such outlets as Entertainment Weekly, Newsweek, Life, and a four-star review in USA Today, which cheered, 'If there was any remaining doubt that Jackson is one of the finest artists country music has ever produced, Like Red on a Rose should erase it.'
Next week, the three-time CMA Entertainer of the Year will make multiple major television appearances, performing on the Late Show with David Letterman on October 12 and NBC's Today on October 13.
Fans can also watch for Jackson this Sunday on ABC's hit series, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, performing 'Remember When' and 'Livin' on Love' – two songs from a private benefit concert on behalf of the Hawkins family of Tennessee , recipients of a new home following the loss of theirs in a massive tornado earlier this year. The episode will air at 8 PM ET on ABC Television.
