NEWNAN, Ga. (Powers' Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival) - Powers' Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival opens for its 36th consecutive year on Labor Day Weekend with new entertainment as it continues to celebrate its proud tradition as host to innovative art exhibitions in this West Georgia community.

Held every year at the 137 acres of historic Powers Plantation site in Newnan, Ga., near Franklin, Powers' Crossroads Festival will open on Saturday, Sept. 2 and will continue through Sunday, Sept. 3 and wrap up on Labor Day, Sept. 4.

Festival hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily. Admission is nominal, $6 for adults and reduced rates for children. Free shuttle is available from the parking areas.

With a proud heritage as one of the best events in the Southeast, Powers brings new fun to the fall Festival this year with an Idol competition and the live performance of country singing star Doug Stone.

On Saturday, Sept. 2 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., 50 Georgians will vie for the title of Powers' Crossroads Idol.

Contestants compete in one of three age categories. Judges will select a winner from each age group, and from that group of three, the judges - with some audience participation - will select the Powers' Crossroads Idol.

Each winner will receive a small cash winning and prizes from Newnan area merchants and they will perform an Encore Show as the opening act for country singer Doug Stone on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m.

Stone, who grew up in Coweta County, will entertain audiences with favorites like his Top 5 hit from 1990 "I'd Be Better Off (In a Pine Box)" and showcase his new work currently found on Lofton Creek Records.

Visitors to this year's festival can also find perennial favorites in shopping for unique arts and crafts. Each of the 250 artisans showcasing their work for sale is selected by judges during the course of the year.

This year, visitors may also see a limited viewing of a collection of over 200 pieces of art purchased by the Festival from 1971-2005. Each year the Festival art judges select several pieces to purchase as exemplary of that particular year's offerings at the Festival.

After 35 years this group of art known as the Judges Purchase Awards has grown to over 200 works.

The Powers' Crossroads Country Fair and Art Festival is organized and produced by five local non-profit organizations as their annual major fundraiser with net proceeds divided among the organizations. They are: Newnan Coweta Chamber of Commerce, Newnan Coweta Arts Association, 4-H Clubs of Coweta County, Newnan Coweta Jaycees and The Pilots Club.
