NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - A guest appearance by Sheryl Crow and covers of songs by Nirvana and Bob Dylan are among the tracks compiled for Sidetracks, a collection of odds and ends from different parts of the career of alt-country maverick Steve Earle. The album is due April 9 from E-Squared/Artemis Records.

Crow can be found belting out a verse on Earle's cover of the 1968 Chambers Brothers' rock anthem, "Time Has Come Today." The track originally appeared on the soundtrack to the Abbie Hoffman bio-pic, Steal This Movie. Meanwhile, Earle also offers a full-throttle version of Nirvana's "Breed" from the group's 1991 album, Nevermind, and a folk-ish version of Bob Dylan's classic "My Back Pages."

Other covers still include Little Feat's "Willin'" and the reggae classic, "Johnny Too Bad." As well, the album features a new track, "Some Dreams," a folk-rock tune also found on the new soundtrack to the Dennis Quaid film The Rookie.

"With the exception of two instrumentals, these are not outtakes," Earle says, "They are, rather, stray tracks that I am very proud of and that are either unreleased or underexposed."
