NASHVILLE, TN (Burrito
Deluxe Official Website) - With their latest single, Encino, the country-rock aces of Burrito
Deluxe gallop toward the border in a spellbinding portrayal of an 1880s outlaw. The song, which would undoubtedly bring a smile to the face of the late, great Marty Robbins, will be released to international radio programmers Aug. 1 via the Country Hotdisc compilation.
Encino, from the acclaimed new Burrito Deluxe CD, DISCIPLES OF THE TRUTH (Luna Chica Records), is an all-around showcase for the skills of lead vocalist Carlton Moody. In addition to singing and playing acoustic guitar, banjo and mandolin, he co-wrote the song, the follow-up to the recent international hit Midnight at a Red Light.
Moody's banjo and mandolin lend Encino a loping feel that's a perfect fit for a vivid lyric about a love-struck (and star- crossed) narrator who, having robbed the stagecoach with an accomplice, lams for Mexico on horseback. He is haunted by thoughts of the beautiful Rosie, as well as by the specter of 'the hanging tree.' 'It's set during the 1880s – a more romantic time,' explains Moody, who wrote the song during an inspired session with Rob Crosby and Craig Karp. 'It's a fictional love story about a guy trying to get ahead and have a better way of life.'
Encino is a stellar entry in the fine storytelling tradition of El Paso, Pancho and Lefty and Folsom Prison Blues. Like those outlaw landmarks, this one is delivered with believability and conviction – as well as an undeniable melody. 'The cool thing is that it has been a hit with live audiences,' Moody says. 'By the second chorus, fans are singing along.'
Moody and his Burrito Deluxe bandmates – Walter Egan (electric guitars, vocals), Stick Davis (bass), Richard Bell (keyboards) and Bryan Owings (drums) – are wrapping up the July leg of their ON A ROLL TOUR supporting DISCIPLES OF THE TRUTH.
