NASHVILLE, Tenn. (SONY BMG MUSIC Entertainment) - Phil Vassar's Greatest Hits Volume 1 has sold over 64,000 copies in its first week, earning the country singer-songwriter his highest scanning debut at No 2 on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart and No 10 on the Billboard Top 200. Greatest Hits Volume 1 which features the Top 10 hit single 'Last Day Of My Life,' scanned more than triple Vassar's previous highest first-week release, 2002's American Child. Country Weekly (****) cites the new disc as '…an example of how a compilation can actually redefine the artist.' 'One great performance after another,' states The New York Times, calling Vassar 'one of country music's must appealing voices.' The 15-track collection not only includes many of Vassar's biggest singles - "In A Real Love," "Six-Pack Summer," "Just Another Day In Paradise" and "Carlene" - it also includes eight newly recorded tracks. Five of those eight songs are hits previously recorded by other artists but written by Vassar, including 'Bye, Bye,' 'My Next Thirty Years' and 'I'm Alright.' The remaining three new tracks are 'Twenty-One,' 'Woman In My Life' and the current single, "Last Day Of My Life," which sits at No 8 on the R&R Chart and No 9 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs Chart. With recent sell-out shows in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Milwaukee, audiences and critics hail Vassar as one of country music's most dynamic live entertainers. Check out a performance of 'Last Day Of My Life' on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson next week. For more information on Vassar, log on to www.philvassar.com.
