NASHVILLE, TN. (NASCAR) - Charleston, South Carolina resident and self-proclaimed "NASCAR fanatic" EDDIE BUSH will sing the national anthem prior to the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 Busch Series race on Friday evening, May 12 at Darlington Raceway. This will be broadcasted live on FX. Bush, who received a standing ovation from fans following his performance of "God Bless America" prior to the 2005 Dodge Charger 500 at Darlington, first achieved national recognition in 2001 with his original song, "Spirit of America," written one week after the tragedy of 9/11. An acquaintance working for the Clear Channel radio group in Charleston asked him for a recording of the song, and soon it was being played hourly on every Clear Channel radio station in the city. The song eventually got airplay in markets all over the country. The Dodge Charger 500 weekend also includes final practice for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series on Friday, May 12, followed by the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 that evening. Matt Kenseth won the event in 2005.
