NASHVILLE, Tenn. (MusicCityNet) When country singer, songwriter and entertainer
Toby Keith formed his own independent label in
September of last year, he took ultimate control of, and ultimate responsibility for, his career. With first week sales of 329,831 for the Show Dog Nashville debut album White Trash With Money, that bold but risky stroke is proving its own point.
Not only is the mark a watershed moment for Keith, but it is an historic opening number for an artist-owned label in the SoundScan era. It is also an indication of the continued growth of Keith's career, besting first week sales of his last album on Universal, Honkytonk University, by approximately 50,000 units.
Significantly, White Trash With Money is now likely to take its place with Keith's other recent multi-platinum albums which have pushed his total career sales close to an astounding 30 million copies. The new album's success has been propelled by Keith's latest smash, "Get Drunk And Be Somebody." Success for both the single and album are, as well, a validation of the staff Keith put together at Show Dog Nashville.
Toby continues his coast-hopping media tour in support of the album, with recent performances on the CMT Music Awards, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Ellen, CBS The Early Show and The View.
He's up for two awards including Entertainer of the Year at the May 23 Academy of Country Music Awards. His Ford-sponsored Hookin' Up & Hangin' Out Tour kicks off June 23 in Manhattan, KS on its way to more than 60 dates.
