NASHVILLE, TN. (Alan Jackson Official Website) - Alan Jackson's ACR/Arista Nashville album Precious Memories has blossomed from a sweet Christmas gift to his mother to a wonderful gift to fans everywhere who've warmly embraced the collection of classic gospel hymns, which has now earned RIAA Gold certification in less than two months. Now at No 1 on Billboard's Top Christian Albums chart for seven weeks, Precious Memories has held the top spot there and on Billboard's Top Christian & Gospel chart every week since the album's release on February 28, selling more than 81,000 copies in the past week alone. Looking back on when she first learned that her son had recorded a gospel album as a gift for her, Alan's mother Ruth remarked, 'I didn't know that he was going to do it. He had promised me that he would make me one sometime, but I had no idea that he was making it until we were up here before Christmas and he told me that he had made it. And I was just thrilled to death. I cried. It just meant so much to me.' Released on the encouragement of family, friends, and his record label, Jackson's Precious Memories became the only gospel recording ever to debut at No 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, while Jackson also became the first country artist in history to debut an album of all spiritual material at No 1 on the Top Christian Albums and Top Christian & Gospel Albums charts. Coming up in May and June, fans can watch for additional airings of Jackson's GAC-televised Precious Memories special, which features interview footage with Jackson and his family, as well as performances of the album's songs, taped live during a sold-out concert at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.
