NASHVILLE, TN. (Arista/Nashville) - Stage-shaking country piano man
Phil Vassar is making a quite a bit of noise in the run-up to the May 2 release of his Greatest Hits. And three sell-out shows capped by a rave New York Times review can only serve to heighten anticipation for the unique Arista/Nashville compilation.
Vassar, one of the genre's most acclaimed performers, opened his latest run with back-to-back sold out shows in New York City. After a roof raising performance at Joe's Pub Wednesday, Vassar brought the house down Thursday evening at BB King's Blues Club, and The Times was on hand to record the evening for posterity:
"Country star Phil Vassar gave one great performance after another," the review cheered. "Mr. Vassar is one of country music's most appealing voices, and Thursday's show underscored the point."
The piece also devoted its attention to the special nature of Vassar's upcoming retrospective, noting its inclusion of new recordings of smash hits he wrote for other artists prior to inking his first record deal. Among them, "My Next Thirty Years," originally recorded by Tim McGraw. Of course, the album also features the songs Phil has built his impressive artist career around including "In A Real Love," "Six Pack Summer" and "Just Another Day In Paradise." His fast-rising new single "Last Day Of My Life" moved up this week to No 16 on Billboard¹s Hot Country Songs chart and No 15 on R&R¹s Country national Airplay chart.
As his tour rolls on, Vassar will be performing yet another sold-out venue Friday night in Chicago, Joe's on Weed. While in the Windy City, he'll make an appearance on WGN's Morning Show that morning. His music is also featured on this week's episode of the new HBO series Big Love. Vassar fans are also busy logging on to Country Weekly's website to vote for him in the Country's Sexiest Men poll.
Phil Vassar was recently nominated for an Emmy Award in the "Outstanding Original Song" category for his composition "Live For Today," which was written and recorded for NBC's Today show. His on-going tour, which also included sold-out shows at The Roxy in West Hollywood, CA and the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield, CA, is sponsored by Movie Gallery.
