Nashville, TN (Kenny Chesney Official Website) - For Kenny Chesney, there is nothing better than the feel of the sun on his skin, nowhere to be and some good friends to do not much of nothing with. So, having touched people with the heart-tugging ballad of loved ones lost too soon 'Who You'd Be Today," then dropping the raging rocker that surmised the centrifugal force of superstardom 'Living In Fast Forward' with everything he's got, the reigning Academy of Country Entertainer of the Year readies a song about his favorite season - 'Summertime' - for car radios, boats and iPods just in time for spring fever.
'Hey, opening day just happened. We're on the road. It's getting warm,' says the Luttrell, Tennessean with a laugh. 'You know, sometimes you just gotta do what feels good, what feels like the song you need right now… I don't know about anybody else, but I'm completely over the winter. I'm ready for the tail-gaiting to begin… to hear the sounds of people's music to come floating into our bus compound at the shows - and we DO hear you guys!
'You can sing great songs, and I have. You can sing songs that rock hard, and we do. But sometimes you just need a song that captures your imagination and puts you right where you need to be. For me, that's 'Summertime' - and it's time! Oh, yeah… Is it ever!'
Written by Steve McEwan and Craig Wiseman, 'Summertime' is a feel good record designed to drive all care, concern and serious thinking from one's brain. The third single from Chesney's approaching triple platinum The Road & The Radio arrives at country radio on April 10.
Chesney's other outing going by the name The Road & The Radio - his 2006 tour - is striking an equally electric chord. Response to the tour, especially its out-of-the-gate on-sale dates, have been unprecedented for the man who has sold over a million tickets the last 4 years, and who graced the cover of Billboard between Mick Jagger and Bono as last year's 3 most successful music acts. Selling out New York City's Madison Square Garden in an hour, Detroit's NFL stadium in almost a day and Boston's Gillette Field, where the Patriots play, four months before the show after selling it out last year, too, over 500,000 tickets have been sold around the country for a concert trek that is only half available for sale. This is living in fast forward for sure.
'I think one of the reasons I've always been a sucker for songs like this is because we all move so fast, we get so caught up in it, it's easy to lose your place. But when you do that,' cautions the man whose made his live shows a rite of summer - even in the cities he plays in the snow, 'you start to forget that life is supposed to be enjoyed. You know, have some fun… find the stuff that makes you happy… and to me, it is as simple sometimes as riding around in your truck with your buddies, listening to the radio, or going swimming with your friends. Being happy, to me, really is as easy as the idea that summer's here - and we've got a little time to not worry so much about everything.'
Starting April 10, Kenny Chesney's seeing to it you can lean on your car radio for support.
