Nashville, TN (George Jones Official Website) - On Friday, March 17, 2006, it was erroneously reported that country legend, GEORGE JONES has signed a recording agreement with Category 5 Records. GEORGE JONES remains signed to and continues to record for BANDIT RECORDS, a label he co-founded and is a partner in. Keith Stegall remains Jones' producer of choice. Jones has agreed to record one song as a 'guest artist' for Category 5 Records as part of a tribute album they are producing to honor Jones' long and remarkable career. "We agreed to cooperate and assist Category 5 Records in their efforts to pay homage to George Jones," said Evelyn Shriver, President of BANDIT RECORDS. "They are extremely well-funded and have the resources to produce and promote this project in a manner that we concur with. Their obvious enthusiasm is welcomed but their 'inexperience' resulted in an unapproved press release, which inaccurately described their association with Jones. It is perplexing that the release was picked up without any attempt to confirm the facts." BANDIT RECORDS was formed in 2001 and has released four critically acclaimed GEORGE JONES projects. Jones' current CD, "Hits I Missed…And One I Didn't" resulted in a 2005 Grammy nomination for his performance of "Funny How Time Slips Away." The previous project, "50 Years of Hits" celebrated Jones' 50th Anniversary as a recording artist and achieved Gold certification from the RIAA. BANDIT RECORDS is distributed by the Welk Music Group.
