LOS ANGELES, CA (Top40 Charts) - Bill Walker, president of Thump Records, announced that the company will be releasing the new CD, "Fame, Sex Y Dinero," by platinum-selling recording artist Gerardo ("Rico Suave").
There are ten original tracks on the new CD, which will be available in both English and Spanish on March 12 (a listing of the 10 tracks appears at the end of this announcement.) When the CD ships to retailers, it will contain a bonus track.
"Fame, Sex y Dinero" is certain to keep people on the dance floors jumping and the crowds bursting with energy, as Gerardo heats up a mix of Latin beats, a twist of rap and salsa rhythms with mainstream pop lyrics, giving him a sound like no other artist.
This fifth album is considered a rap bio, detailing what he has been up to since his "Rico Suave" days. Combining Caribbean salsa sounds with his own unique sound and style, the album is filled with catchy rhythms and irreverent lyrics that are sure to please fans, while prompting new ones to flock to record stores.
Gerardo's new track "Americana" was released early to DJ pools around the country and debuted last week as a "Breakout" record on Billboard's Dance Chart. Last summer, Thump Records released Gerardo's single, "Sigo Siendo Rico," in Spanish only, which debuted at #3 on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks.
The record garnered significant airplay on Latino radio stations across the country, and Gerardo appeared on many national television programs, including MTV, VH1 and NBC's "Extra."
On "Sigo Siendo Rico" (English translation "Still Rico"), Gerardo refers to his 1991 hit, "Rico Suave," which topped music charts and earned him platinum status.
"Rico Suave" spawned the term, "Spanglish," describing Gerardo's unique combination of rapping in both English and Spanish on one song. He became the first successful artist on Interscope Records, where he currently heads up A & R Dance and signed Enrique Iglesias and Bubba Sparxxx, to name a few.
